Desde el mes de noviembre del 2023 cuando el IDEAM anuncio la incidencia del fenómeno de El Niño en territorio colombiano, CODECHOCÓ activó la estrategia para mitigar afectaciones durante la temporada de menos lluvias principalmente para la subregión del Darién, zona que se caracteriza por registrar altas temperaturas y pocas precipitaciones al inicio de cada año.
En este momento el país presenta alerta roja por la generación de incendios forestales, los cuales han generado afectación de bosques en varias ciudades del País. En el Chocó, hasta el momento no se registran incendios forestales y aunque se han presentado tres conatos, éstos no han generado grandes afectaciones de cobertura vegetal.
Gracias a la articulación con las Alcaldías Municipales, Consejos Comunitarios, Fuerza Pública, Bomberos Voluntarios, Cruz Roja, Gobernación del Chocó y comunidad en general, en el territorio se adelantan jornadas de educación ambiental que van encaminadas a fortalecer el conocimiento frente al riesgo que se puede presentar al realizar quemas durante esta temporada, sus consecuencias y afectaciones tanto al ambiente como a las comunidades.
Durante la vigencia 2024, CODECHOCÓ ha realizado nueve jornadas de educación y sensibilización ambiental en los municipios de Unguía, Acandí, Bahía Solano y Nuquí y desde el mes de noviembre del 2023 se venía trabajando con las comunidades cercanas al Distrito Regional de Manejo Integrado Lago Azul – Los Manatíes, ubicado en el municipio de Unguía.
Por otro lado, la Corporación, ha liderado siete comités de gestión del riesgo, donde se socializan las estrategias de prevención, control y vigilancia de incendios forestales. En estos espacios también se comparten las alertas generadas por el IDEAM y demás fuentes de información o sistemas de alertas tempranas disponibles, con el objetivo de informar oportunamente a los Consejos Territoriales de Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres para que estos activen las medidas necesarias de prevención y preparación para la respuesta, de acuerdo a los protocolos y condiciones del territorio.
“EL 95% de los incendios que se han registrado en la actualidad en el país han sido provocados por el hombre, por lo tanto, generar información y espacios de educación ambiental para el cuidado de los bosques, ha sido la carta principal de CODECHOCÓ, para hacerle frente a los incendios forestales. Esto se viene haciendo desde la vigencia 2020 donde hemos logrado que las comunidades adopten prácticas sostenibles que no pongan en riesgo la fauna y flora silvestre de la región; y aunque aún hay mucho por hacer; seguimos realizando seguimiento continuo de los puntos con probabilidad de incendios forestales”. Aseguró Arnold Alexander Rincón López, Director General de CODECHOCÓ.
Para la oportuna atención de emergencias por incendios forestales en la región, CODECHOCÓ, prestó apoyo a los Consejos Municipales de Gestión del Riesgo, especialmente al cuerpo de Bomberos de los municipios de Riosucio y Unguía, a los cuales se les ha dotado con Batefuegos, Bombas Mac 3, rastrillos y uniformes distintivos de los organismos de socorro.
